Cardboard Tube fish
Here’s a simple way of creating a 3D relief sculpture of a fish just using a cardboard tube and some other basic scrap pieces of card and packaging. All you need is a pair of scissors, some masking tape, some PVA glue and a bit of paint.
This version is inspired by the fabulous illustrations of Mini Grey and is based on her children’s book ‘The Greatest Show On Earth’. The book provides an excellent journey through evolution, giving us a snapshot into the Earth’s history and some of its strangest inhabitants.
You could use this technique to create a huge variety of fish, from river species to giant marine specimens. You could look at the strange deep-sea dwellers, focus on brightly coloured tropical fish, or even take inspiration from fossil fish and recreate what you think they may have looked like, taking inspiration from their fossil skeletons.
